With more of us switching to electric vehicles (EVs) it’s important to make sure that when we take our EV to a local garage for a service, MOT or repair, that the technicians who work there are qualified to work on EVs. That’s where IMI TechSafe comes in.

What is IMI TechSafe?

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) was founded in 1920 to establish new skills and knowledge benchmarks for the emerging automotive industry. IMI’s purpose is to provide, and continuously evolve, the means by which people working in the automotive sector can attain relevant professional competence and appropriate recognition.

Achieving IMI TechSafe recognition within the IMI's Professional Register showcases a technician’s competence, trustworthiness, and commitment to learning and development in key, safety-critical automotive technologies, such as Electric, Hybrid, Hydrogen, and ADAS-equipped vehicles.

How do technicians become IMI TechSafe EV certified?

In order to achieve TechSafe EV recognition technicians need to undertake and pass a course run by the IMI. These courses give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on electric vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system.

All our technicians at Star Tech EV are IMI TechSafe certified, so you can rest assured that they are qualified to work on your electric car. If your EV needs an MOT, service or repair just give us a call on 01202 148303 or email us at service@star-tech-ev.co.uk
